Experience Labs in remote health and care: a participatory design approach

The participatory design approach of the Experience Labs has much to offer to the field of Digital Health. The Labs currently operate within the health and care context. This workshop will aim to understand the value of Experience Labs and design innovation approaches to address remote health and care challenges. We will explore creative ways of engaging with people towards forming a common understanding between participants about the challenges and opportunities relating to 'remote' in their work practice. The workshop will be led by Jeroen Blom, Research Fellow at the Glasgow School of Art and Digital Health and Care Institute, and co-facilitated by Experience Lab team members Angela Tulloch, Tara French and Tine Thorup. The workshop will consist of four sessions spanning a period of 1.5 h. In session one (20 min) Jeroen Blom will present examples of Experience Labs that have been conducted in Scotland, with a particular focus on remote health and care delivery. Session two (15 min) will involve creating an environment for participants to speed-network and share experiences of 'remote' in their work practice. Session three (40 min) will use design tools to map connections between participants. In groups facilitated by an Experience Lab team member the workshop participants will map experiences and practice to capture commonalities, and identify existing gaps in remote health and care delivery. The final session (15 min) will invite each group to share insights on the interpretation of 'remote' and the emerging key themes.
