• At the current time the world’s population is evenly divided between ‘rural’ and ‘urban’.
• By 2050 approximately 70% of the world's population will be urban.
• The provision of basic food and water for over 9 billion people will be a challenge without much improved coordination and cooperation.
• "Without developing and investing in rural areas in poor countries, deprivation and inequalities will remain widespread, though significantly less than today".
