Expressions of interest – RRH Australasian Associate Editor

Rural and Remote Health (RRH) is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the position of RRH Australasian Associate Editor.

RRH is supported by the and the Rural Clinical Schools and the University Departments of Rural Health. It is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access evidence base for advancing rural and remote health education, research, policy and clinical practice, with a particular emphasis on Indigenous health. It has the capacity to create instant scholarly impact in the rural communities the programs serve.

RRH is managed by a small, committed but geographically dispersed team. The successful applicant will work closely with the Australasian Regional Editor (Amanda Barnard) and Associate Editor (Denese Playford), Senior Editor and Journal Manager. Complementing the Australasian section are African, European, Asian, North American and Latin American regional sections, each with its own Regional Editor.

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in the rural health conversation in our region, and for younger clinicians with research interests to gain a wide perspective of both current research and the processes of peer review in an academic journal.

The Australasian Associate Editor role involves:

  • Working with the Australasian Regional Editorial Panel, including communication, involvement in decision making and assignment of special regional roles;
  • Assessing submitted and revised manuscripts, including the assessment of reviewer feedback;
  • Providing editorial advice according to her or his unique rural health expertise and experience;
  • Allocating articles to reviewers, and assisting in the maintenance of the reviewer panel by monitoring, supporting and motivating regional peer reviewers;
  • Contributing to and advising on international and funding initiatives; contributing to publicity and corporate publications, such as the RRH annual report;
  • Commissioning and writing editorials; commissioning specific articles; and
  • Promoting the Journal at local and national forums.
  • In addition to a clinical background, it is necessary to have experience of the processes of academic peer review (as author and reviewer) and competence in evaluating methodology. This is an honorary position, and will have a public profile on the RRH website.

    For more information, please contact Amanda Barnard, the Australasian Regional Editor, at amanda.barnard@anu.edu.au.

    Please forward your CV with a short response outlining your interest and suitability for the position by close of business Friday 6 March 2020 to Melissa Storey (Senior Editor; melissa.storey@rrh.org.au).
