Calling for Expressions of Interest: RRH African Associate Editor

Rural and Remote Health (RRH) is seeking Expressions of Interest from people interested in serving the rural and remote healthcare professionals and communities of this continent by becoming an African Region Associate Editor.

RRH is an international, multidisciplinary, peer-reviewed, open-access evidence base for advancing rural and remote health education, research, policy and clinical practice, with a particular emphasis on Indigenous health. It has the capacity to create instant scholarly impact in the rural communities the programs serve.

RRH is managed by a small, committed but geographically dispersed team. The successful applicant will work closely with the African Regional Editor, Professor Ian Couper, as well as the Senior Editor and Journal Manager.

Complementing the African section are Australasian, Asian, North American, European and Latin American sections, each with their own regional editorial teams.

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in the rural health conversation in Africa. Younger healthcare workers and researchers will gain a wide perspective of both current research and the processes of peer review in an academic journal. More experienced researchers will have the opportunity to contribute their expertise to the advancement of rural health research.

The African Associate Editor role involves:

  • Working with the African Regional Editor, including communication, involvement in decision making and assignment of special regional roles;
  • Assessing submitted and revised manuscripts, including the assessment of reviewer feedback;
  • Providing editorial advice according to their unique rural health expertise and experience;
  • Allocating articles to reviewers, and assisting in the maintenance of the reviewer panel by monitoring, supporting and motivating regional peer reviewers;
  • Contributing to the international editorial community of practice within the Journal;
  • Commissioning and writing editorials;
  • Commissioning specific articles; and
  • Promoting the Journal at local and national forums.

Requirements

In addition to a health or medical studies background, it is necessary to have experience in the processes of academic peer review (as author and reviewer) and competence in evaluating methodology.

This is an honorary/volunteer position. Associate Editors will have a public profile on the RRH website.

For more information, please contact the Regional Editor – Professor Ian Couper (icouper@sun.ac.za)

Please forward your CV with a short response outlining your interest and suitability for the position by close of business Friday, 31 May 2024 to Melissa Storey (Senior Editor; melissa.storey@rrh.org.au).
