Dr Levi Osuagwu an Eye Health specialist, with research interests in epidemiology and public health primarily focusing on diabetes, mental health and blinding eye disease. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, and the First President of the African Chapter of the Academy, An initiative he championed. Dr Levi received the Vice Chancellor Research Support Fellowship at Western Sydney University in 2021 after completing his Post Doc in Diabetes and Integrated health at Western. Through his current position as the Academic Lead in Rural Health and a Senior Lecturer, Levi pioneers research in Bathurst Rural Clinical School (BRCS) and his team has championed and pioneered various transformational research projects and initiatives including the establishment of the first Community Reference group in 2023 which provides opportunity for community driven research projects, and most recently the formation of the first BRCS Aboriginal Reference Group through working with Indigenous Elders. He has held senior roles in research and planning, the convener of two international research groups, author of more than 90 published works cited by reputable international agencies, Levi holds a doctorate from Queensland University of Technology.
