Dr. Benoit Tousignant is an Assistant Professor at the University of Montreal (UM) School of Optometry. He obtained his doctorate of optometry (OD, UM, 2000), followed by a residency in Primary eye care from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (2001), a Master of Science in Visual Science (MSc, UM, 2005) and a Master in Public Health degree from Harvard University (MPH, 2008). He actively practices eye care with Indigenous and carceral populations. He founded Regard collectif, UM’s mobile community eye clinic which delivers eye care to the Montreal homeless, while educating optometry students and conducting public health research on this population. He also has an interest for developing sustainable eye health systems in developing countries and in remote communities. He teaches epidemiology, geriatric optometry and primary eye care.
