I have been a midwife for over 25 years and am currently lecturing at James Cook University in North Queensland. My passions are high risk maternity care, rural and remote midwifery, education and research. I am currently undertaking my PhD.

Dr Wicking earned her Bachelor's and Masters degrees in her native state of California, before migrating to Australia in 2001 and earning a Graduate Certificate Education (Tertiary Teaching) and a PhD at James Cook University (JCU). Dr Wicking is doubly certified as a coach, through both the International Coach Federation and the American Holistic Nurses Credentialing Center. She created the Chronic Condition Coaching Clinic on the JCU Townsville campus in 2016. Kristin was also the Academic Lead: Staff Well-Being for Nursing & Midwifery (N&M), where she used coaching skills to provide wellness coaching and/or professional development coaching to staff. She also uses coaching skills to foster timely completions and high publication rates in her doctoral research students, many of whom are studying chronic conditions and/or other wellness-promotion initiatives.
