Alison is a certified practicing speech pathologist and an internationally respected leader and researcher in paediatric lifelong speech and language disorders arising from head and neck motor, motor, and anatomical disorders, including hearing impairment with a focus on urban Aboriginal children, childhood apraxia of speech, and cleft related disorders. Children with these types of speech and language disorders face a lifetime of educational and financial disadvantage. Internationally, my research has minimised that international public health problem. The methods underpinning that outstanding achievement include, large scale communication assessment research, intervention studies, research with strong interdisciplinary collaborations, and translating research outcomes into health policy
