As is the case in developing countries, it is difficult for women living in the rural areas of Turkey to obtain access to healthcare service due to insufficient numbers of midwives and physicians, the lower level of healthcare service quality, difficulties in reaching city centers for economic reasons, a low education level, and poverty. It is important to demonstrate that the Menopause Rating Scale is applicable as a screening test for rural women because, if healthcare workers in rural areas can identify women showing severe menopause symptoms, they could be referred to secondary level physicians (gynecologists) and offered medical attention. The Menopause Rating Scale can be used as a screening test for the identification of women with severe menopausal symptoms.
